Measure from the actual start
The Las Torres operator lists its walking excursion from Hotel Las Torres at 18.8 kilometres and about eight hours, with a high difficulty rating. Starting at a welcome center or park entrance changes the total. Keep the named starting point attached to the number rather than advertising one distance for the whole sector. Route source
The journey passes through several environments before the final viewpoint. It is worth understanding those stages because the towers themselves remain the late reward, not a landmark visible beside every kilometre of the approach.
The valley and Los Vientos Pass
The route climbs the slopes of Almirante Nieto into the Ascencio Valley. Los Vientos Pass gives views toward Laguna Amarga and Lake Nordenskjöld before the route descends toward Chileno Mountain Hostel. The first substantial climb is therefore followed by a loss of height within the outward journey. Route source
Chileno marks a change in setting and a useful named stage. Lenga and ñirre forest provide a more enclosed environment than the exposed pass, before the route reaches the higher glacial terrain. The contrast is part of the day, rather than an inconvenient stretch before the photograph.
The moraine is the final climb
The operator’s description places the final moraine ascent between approximately five hundred and eight hundred ninety metres. Those figures describe that section, not the total climbing over the complete excursion. Broken glacial material replaces the lower forest as the route rises to the lake and granite towers. The return uses the same long approach through Chileno and the valley. Reaching the lake leaves that whole sequence to reverse. A horseback-plus-walking excursion has a different starting arrangement and should not be substituted into this walking itinerary’s statistics.
Use a dated park instruction for the intended day
Ask CONAF or the Las Torres sector rangers for the day’s guide, equipment and entrance-time requirements. The park publishes seasonal notices covering poles and microspikes; the final moraine and the long return make those requirements part of the day’s route planning. Route source Route source
Obtain the current ranger instruction, entrance arrangement and sector report before committing to the full walk. The operator’s route description explains the journey; the park authority determines the conditions under which it may be undertaken.
