A working boat in The Marrows
The Marrows is the home archipelago for DREDGE’s fishing trawler. Fishing, selling the catch, researching equipment, and upgrading the boat gradually expand the journeys and catches available. Official Steam description
Dredging retrieves objects and valuables from the seabed. It gives an excursion another purpose alongside fishing, while the islands provide inhabitants whose requests reveal more of their local stories. Official Steam description
Water that asks for attention
Sharp rocks and shallow reefs complicate navigation between islands. Reaching a promising patch of water involves assessing the passage itself, rather than simply steering toward a distant marker. Official Steam description
Darkness adds fog and other dangers to those crossings. Continuing for another catch or returning to safety becomes a recurring decision as the trawler’s range grows. Official Steam description
Reach grows with the boat
Equipment research and boat upgrades connect routine fishing with exploration. Better capabilities can open different fish and more remote water; the next destination depends partly on the trawler being prepared for it. Official Steam description
A broader view also comes through the camera settings documented by Black Salt. Camera Follow Mode can detach the view from the boat’s turning direction; separate horizontal and vertical sensitivity sliders adjust the spyglass. These are observation controls, distinct from propulsion or fishing upgrades, that change how the player looks around during a trip. Black Salt: wildlife and photo mode
A different reason to look
The Wildlife Photo Mode update introduced the Photographer at an island camp south of The Marrows. Helping her unlocks Photo Mode, providing another reason to watch the water besides locating a catch. The same update added wildlife encounters and aberrations, expanding the range of things an observer might discover without disclosing their locations here. Black Salt: wildlife and photo mode
Passive Mode can be enabled from Settings at any stage and removes threats from creatures of the deep. It offers a gentler way to investigate wildlife alongside the camera. That description concerns creature danger: it does not promise that every rock, reef, or other navigational consideration disappears from the archipelago. Black Salt: wildlife and photo mode
