A garage at the edge of the Zone

An abandoned garage is the base between expeditions into the fictional Olympic Exclusion Zone. The vehicle is a station wagon, and the route is an exploratory drive through a surreal Pacific Northwest landscape rather than a map of accessible real roads. Across the Zone, remnants of the ARDA research organization mark a world whose history has been interrupted. Official Steam description

Before setting out, a route planner on the garage wall displays atmospheric shifts, radiation, possible Anomalies, and resources at intended stops. That information makes route selection consequential: resources may lie in more dangerous places, and the vehicle’s components can take damage that changes what it can do. Conditions change between stops

Forest and swamp biomes alter driving conditions, while towns and research stations contain supplies. The planner gives the driver a way to weigh those environments and resources before entering them. Anomalies and radiation add hazards, and named threats such as Abductors, Bunnies, and Can Openers make the Zone’s dangers more specific than weather or rough terrain alone. A stop is also an opportunity to recover useful materials. Scrap can become panels or new components, and a sealing kit can repair a tire. Since damage can affect individual vehicle components, scavenging and repairs are part of navigating: a useful detour can help restore the car, while reaching resources in hazardous places carries its own consequences. Anchors and the return leg

Anchors provide energy used for upgrades and extraction. Choosing an exit begins a closing Zone Storm, turning the return into a distinct stage of the expedition. The outward drive is shaped by what the planner shows and what can be gathered; once an exit is selected, the storm changes the terms of getting back. Ironwood: route planning and repairs

Between runs, scavenged resources support vehicle repairs and upgrades at the abandoned garage. This makes the garage part of the route system: findings from one expedition can prepare the station wagon for the next, while the condition of its parts gives exploration a material cost. Official Steam description

The route is a set of tradeoffs

Pacific Drive’s exploration depends on choosing where to go with imperfect, practical information. A forest or swamp changes the driving conditions; a town or research station may offer supplies; a more dangerous stop may hold resources worth risking. Planning, vehicle condition, and the storm-bound return link those choices into a single expedition loop. Official Steam description Ironwood: route planning and repairs
