The ridge photograph is the first choice

At Seceda, the lift-assisted ridge visit and a longer mountain walk begin in the same scenic area. The official ridge description follows the summit cross toward Forcella Pana, with approximately a kilometre and an hour assigned to the ridge experience itself. That is a different itinerary from arriving on foot from Col Raiser. Route source

The Col Raiser upper-station approach follows forest road 2 and then 1A, covering 3.5 kilometres one way with 423 metres of ascent. Using the upper station matters: starting at the valley station would create a much larger walk. Route source

Beyond the cross: Pieralongia and Odles

The Seceda operator describes a 5.8-kilometre walk to Pieralongia, its hut beneath two stone pinnacles, then onward by the World Heritage Terrace and Odles. That published route ends its main descent at the Fermeda chairlift and uses the lift to regain height before a short walk back to the cable car. Route source

It is not a fully walked loop. That detail is easy to miss when the itinerary is copied as a distance and an attractive string of hut names. A route that relies on powered transport must be checked as a whole.

The closed chairlift changes that plan

The operator’s current page explicitly marks Fermeda closed. Its main Ortisei–Furnes–Seceda lifts have a published 2026 season through 2 November, subject to operations, but that does not restore the separate chairlift return. Do not set off on the 5.8-kilometre outing expecting that ride to be available. Route source

Choose a complete walking return or another published itinerary suited to the operating lifts. The higher ridge visit can still be a separate aim; there is no need to combine every available-looking route into a single supposed loop.

A paid section is not every way off the ridge

The official Val Gardena route identifies a five-euro turnstile on the eastbound descent on trail 6 toward Forcella Pana. It also identifies trail 1 lower down as an alternative toward Mastlé and Puez-Odle. That is a particular route detail, not a general entry charge for all Seceda walks. Route source

Recheck the current access terms and the lift calendar for the intended date. Both are more useful than a generic promise that the ridge is a quick cable-car stop.
